7 rugs that will leave you floored...

See what I did there?

Because, really, a boring floor just will not do.

What better way to keep your feet toasty warm than with a new rug! Socks will work too, so will Uggs, and heated foot spas… Apologies. I digress.

Check out my 7 picks for rockin’ rugs that will be sure to brighten your home all year round:

Picture
  1. Liuwa Rug, By Missoni Home (Available at Spence & Lyda, POA)
This bright chevron rug is for the girl-about-town who isn’t afraid to splurge. This vibrant piece will work well layered with subdued materials and colours. Don’t be afraid to mix prints, especially if working off a monochromatic palette.
  2. Citta Design, $1,190
Splurge moment – great for lifting a dining or living space. Mix with bright colours and metallic accents for a modern look. And don’t be afraid to throw on some more black for an edgy finish.
  3. IKEA, $99
For the risk taker – this piece tells a story. It’s the stand out feature of your room. Keep it masculine and ‘country’ with some leather, oak and giant antlers hanging above the fire place. Don’t over do it – nobody likes a theme. Unless of course Dr Quinn Medicine Woman is bringing Keith Urban as her plus one to your dinner party.
  4. Symmetric Floor Rug, By Freedom, $299
This piece gives you modern shabby chic all year round. Team up with a white coffee table, some fashion books, for your favourite candle and some pink tulips. Throw on a gold skull for good measure.
  5. St Tropez, by OzDesign Furniture, from $499.00
The epitome of beach side glamour, this soothing piece will lighten your space and broaden your floorboards. This palette works well with teak or walnut furniture. Using bright and white accessories will help open the space, especially if you’re decorating a small room/nook.
  6. Ikat Links Wool Rug, by West Elm, from $299.00
For the Flamingo with the perfect balance of culture and glamour. It says ‘I like white fabric lounges, champagne and orchids… but I’ve also been trekking through Morocco.’ Transeasonal colours and cool tones make this inviting rug the perfect conversation piece in your home.
  7. Isabella, by Matt Blatt, $595
For the Flamingo who knows what she wants…but also doesn’t. You want a bright, warm rug that will go with just about anything all year round, but you also want to look like a risk taker. As busy as this rug is, it works in just about any situation – under your dining table, bed, coffee table or desk. It works with a number of materials and is bright enough for summer, but warm enough for winter. It’s your ‘play it safe, by not playing it safe rug’. Ya dig?

  8. There you have it my little interior decorators. Go! Shop! Decorate! Live! Enjoy!
Remember that if you are currently in the market for some floor love, your choice will come down to what speaks to you and your space. Do your research, spend wisely, but most of all have fun experimenting outside your comfort zone. Until next time…

Big love,

AAA xx

Head on over to http://www.flamingopink.com.au/about-us/ to check out my head shot and profile because I am officially an author over at Flamingo Pink! Boom!

Pretty exciting times ahead with my new segments '7 things...', 'Q&A with AAA' and 'Inside Her Wardrobe". Hope you like it. Thanks to all of my fans and readers who have made my posts so popular... Here are some of them if you've already forgotten my great advice and amazing sense of humour http://www.flamingopink.com.au/category/style/diy/

So I'm finally a writer like Carrie Bradshaw. All I need now is to dye my hair blonde, take up smoking, quit and then take it up again. (I already have my Mr Big and enough shoes and bags that can cover my mortgage!)

Big love,

P.S. In my head this is what I look like when I'm writing... it's my happy place. (Actually normally I'm in my PJ's hopped up on Tim Tams and Maggie Beer ice cream.)

brace yourself for... brace face!

Ya know that old saying 'you are never fully dressed without a smile'? I love it - def one of my faves. But what if your smile included crowding and an overlap of your two front teeth? Well that was my problem - and has been for some years now. But what does a 30 year old do with a mouth full of metal? Enter INVISALIGN!!!

Ok, so can you totally see my braces in the above Instapic?? You can't, right?

Insta filter or none, Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible. I have just started a 22 week treatment at The Ortho Practice in Sydney CBD (they have more locations in Maroubra and Kincumber) and I have to admit I am on week 5 and loving life. I can already see a dramatic change in my front overlap which has bugged me ever since the braces I had as a kid were removed!

So what's Invisalign? They are pretty much invisible braces. A lot of the time people don't even know I am wearing them until I point them out. The specialist team at The Ortho Practice treat some of the most complex cases out there, luckily for me, I am refining the treatment I had when I was in high school as my wisdom teeth have cause some movement.

Here are the details of my treatment for those wondering what the finer details are:

- I have 22 aligners (top and bottom) which I have to change every two weeks. This would normally mean a 44 week treatment, however I am using a product called Acceledent which means I change my aligners weekly, cutting my Invisalign treatment time in half (whoo)!

- The cost of Invisalign can be anywhere from $5k to $10k or more depending on the complexity of each case. The average treatment is around the $7-$8k mark.

- I remove my aligners only when I need to eat, then brush my teeth and pop them back on. They are so easy to take care of and have also minimised my snacking habits during the day!

- To clean my aligners I just use my toothbrush and some water or soak in white vinegar, brush then rinse.

And it's not just about looking good - my overcrowding has meant there has been a lot of pressure on my teeth and a lot of wear and tear as a result. I only have one set of these chompers, so I wanna make sure they are with me for the long haul. Perfecting my smile means that I can clean them properly and maintain them for years to come.

I have to say this is one of the best decisions I have made in a long time. And the silver lining (just in case you weren't already convinced) is that with Invisalign, as my smile improves, it won't be hiding behind conventional wires and brackets. My friends and family can already see the improvements!

If you're interested in achieving a brand new, healthy smile for 2014 - give the peeps at The Ortho Practice a call on 9344 7081 for a complimentary initial consultation.

Big love,

AAA xx
