Plan it - Once you've decided which of your pieces are going on holidays with you, lay them out, make sure they work and that you can mix and match. You dont have to pack a head to toe look for each day. You're not Lady Gaga, its gonna be ok. For example, packing two tops, a pair of shorts and a skirt will give you four different looks. Happy days!
Accessories - Keep it simple. Take pieces that you can reuse with a different outfits. For example, a straw fedora would go with most summer outfits and are appropiate poolside, or when you're out and about. When packing jewellery, choose neutral colours and versatile styles that compliment your everyday looks. You don't need to pack a necklace for each day.
Flatwear - Be comfy, baby - you're on vacay! Unless you're travelling for a cocktail event, its ok to live in gorgeous summer sandals and ballet flats. They are easy to pack and are versatile for most summer outfits. An embellished sandal and printed maxi dress for dinner would be gorj.
Sunscreen - some of us need to be told. Ahem.
Frocks - I'm a lover of dresses - especially on holidays. Slip one on and you're out the door. No time for matchy-matchy when there's tanning to be done! Dresses are always chic, summery and are easy to accessorise. Most go from poolside to dinner, so why not pack a few?
Beach outerwear - I'm going to tell you what I tell all of my clients - think fabulous! It's ok to get dressed up for the pool. I'm not talking full hair and make up and Louboutins. I'm merely suggesting that an embellished kaftan over your bikini, an 'of-the-moment' necklace and a metallic sandal never killed anyone. (Well not anyone I know!) Denim shorts are great for trekking through Surfers looking for a bacon and egg roll after a big night. There I said it.
A long sleeve - for the odd cold night!
Product - You don't have to skimp here. I am a firm believer of travelling with your own skincare, haircare and cosmetic products. I'm not a fan of the complimentary toiletries, even in 5-star resorts. I can't leave home without my beauty essentials. So the only advice I would give is to take travel sized portions of your faves where you can. Rule of thumb: if you need it, pack it!
Entertainment - a great book, your ipod and of course a camera. You don't have to completely switch off on hols, and its always nice to have chill time if you get the odd rainy day.
Coathangers - Duh! And don't even sit there like you're shocked that I've suggested this. Not all hotels and resorts provide coathangers. So be prepared to hang up your special pieces. The last think you want is a crinkly kaftan while your poolside getting your margaritas on.
Ok that't it from me, have a wonderful time, you deserve it!
